Rough pump maintenance January 11, 2002
The backing pressure on the 2200 L/s turbo pump was found to be up from the usual 5mT to a level varying between 60-100mT. The main valve was closed and the turbo was shut down.
The roughing cart was dissembled to get access to the pumps and filters. The 6 oil filters were replaced (Motor Guard M-735 Filter Element 941750). The oil level was down to the minimum level in the Edwards-80. After changing filters (and filling the filter cartridges with oil), the oil was topped up to max. Running the pump for a few minutes dropped the level to 80%. It was topped back to max. The turbo bake jacket was turned on for a day before opening back to the main chamber. During the maintenance, the valve to the transfer ion pump was opened to maintain good vacuum in the growth chamber. The pressure was low 10-9T during the time the turbo was off.
